Update on Jimmy John's in Roanoke

I just learned that Jimmy John's is expected to open by the end of this year in Roanoke, on U.S. 460. That's according to spokeswoman Ali Goldner.

Many of you know about Jimmy John's. It's an Illinois-based sandwich chain, and it already has two restaurants in Christiansburg and Blacksburg.

Goldner said she could not offer more details about Jimmy John's Roanoke store. Apparently, it's a franchise, and the chain does not release details about its franchisees until after each new restaurant has opened.

This new Roanoke Jimmy John's is planned for the intersection of Blue Hills Drive and U.S. 460.

In other local restaurant news, the owner of The Isaacs Mediterranean Restaurant in Roanoke is making plans to open the Meze World Cafe in the former spot of Trio Bistro Bar Bottle in downtown Roanoke. You can read more about it on the Fridge Magnet blog.

  1. Let me tell you about the hunt for an Assistant Manager for Jimmy John's.
I have a friend who responded to their ad for this position and she was told she would be working 50-60 hours a week and closing every night at 11pm. No day shifts because the person doing the interviews will be working all the early shifts! The pay is insulting for this salaried position, but you could, if the sales are exceptable, earn a $7,000 bonus yearly. Once again a company is coming into Roanoke and expecting their employees to bring in customers while Managment and Marketing for a new business here sits back and whines when it fails!
My friend was told by this person interviewing her that he is aware he will have to find someone who has no children, no college classes to attend because they do not support or make exceptions for furthering your education, and you have no life here and are a workaholic and don't mind being paid peanuts for 50-60 hours a week. If this does however sound good to you then apply for this position. I would rather eat dog food than be paid peanuts for 40 hours a week, but work 50-60 hours a week for it?
I know jobs are few and far between here, but should we be so desperate that we except this position and once again let some business from outside this area come in and take advantage of Roanokers because of our high unemployment rate? I think NOT!

  2. Maybe Jenny can research this, unless someone knows the answer.
I drive by this new construction every day (Jimmy Johns) and have noticed that the building is about half the size from when it originally went up.
    Anyone know why? Thanks.
