Weiner Stand to reopen

I have good news for those of you who are hot dog lovers and specifically, fans of the Roanoke Weiner Stand.

Gus Chacknes plans to reopen the Weiner Stand's Brandon Avenue location in Roanoke. Chacknes, who is the nephew of former owner, Gus Pappas, now owns this hot dog business at 3601 Brandon Ave.

I reported earlier this month here that Pappas sold the Weiner Stand building. But Chacknes doesn't own the real estate.

Look for this hot dog stand to reopen next month. And check out my story in tomorrow's business section for more details.

  4. Yahoo and Yeah indeed! I can get there MUCH more often than I can hit the downtown store! As many hot dogs as I've had, in so many places, I still haven't found one I like as much as the Weiner Stand! I will be there as soon as they reopen! Thanks for the report, Jenny!

  5. Who wants hot dogs ?? Somebody gotta be next!!
At the downtown store Johnny doesn't move like he used to, age and health issues are to blame. I eat there about every 2 weeks or so, something just doesn't seem the same to me, don't know if it is the hotdogs or the chili, but somethings different

  6. RT, your comment on Johnny. He works 6 days a week about 9 hours a day & is 73 years old. His health is fine..

  7. You guys obviously haven't tried Sams Hot Dogs in Salem, on Main Street directly across from McD's. Sometimes difficult to get in, and mostly drive thru, but I think they have the best hot dogs.

  8. Although I love the Weiner stand...the next time you go to Gboro, as you get off the Bypass around Martinsville and back on to 220, stop at the Peoples gas station on the right for the best hot dogs ever!. Sometimes I drive down there and get a sackful for the whole family and drive back. Mustard, chili and slaw,,Oh My!

  9. The Health Department will be unable to inspect the store until Tuesday (which is required to get the business license)so unfortunately the tentative 10/12 opening will be rescheduled. We are hoping to have everything up and running by the end of next week!!
