Free groceries

Food Lion launched its holiday discount program this week, so you might want to check it out if you're interested in saving $20 on groceries in the next few months.

If you shop at Food Lion for six of eight weeks and spend $45 each visit, you'll earn credits. At the end of the six weeks, you'll earn a $20 electronic coupon off you next shopping order.

These coupons expire on Dec. 8, so this grocery savings coincides with the holiday season.

To start off the program on your next shopping trip, you have to scan your MVP card and Food Lion's free turkey card, which is found in the grocer's weekly flier. The credits stack up on your MVP card for following store visits.

  1. Or just shop at Walmart and save much more than $20. Food Lion is the highest priced chain grocer in Roanoke.

  2. RJ, I thought from the comments on this blog that Ukrop's was the highest priced chain grocer. Which is it???

  4. My grocery bill is always less when I shop at Food Lion than when I go to Kroger. I'm not sure if the prices are really better but I don't buy all the impulse purchases that I tend to get at Kroger. I suppose they are just TOO GOOD at marketing. lol Maybe not that good since I go to Food Lion most of the time.

  5. Being from Richmond and very familiar with the Ukrop family, I would rather shop there. Their prices may be a little high but the employees are happy to be there, the store is clean and they go out of their way for the customer. Kroger and Food Lion are all about their bottom line and couldn't care less about their employees and from all the Datelines I've seen, they obviously don't care about their customers either. Even the biggest chain stores can't compete with Ukrop's. Just walk into any one of their stores and you will see why.

  6. Jason, I have never said Ukrops was highest. I like Ukrops and hate to see them close. Food Lion is without a doubt the highest, has the poorest selection and most of their stores seem grungy. I do not see how Food Lion stays in business, the few times I have been in there there are no customers. Although Ukrops is never slammed with business they always seem to have more customers then Food Lion.
