Sam's Club for Christiansburg
Plans are in the works to bring Sam's Club to Christiansburg.
According to this story today in the New River Valley Current, Wal-Mart wants to file plans to open this mega warehouse retailer at the Marketplace shopping center.
Sam's Club has one Roanoke Valley store, at Towne Square Shopping Center in Roanoke.

I'm looking forward to this change. The MarketPlace has been a major eyesore the last several years. Having been inside some of the now vacant stores and talks with some of the remaining business owners, the condition of the center is abysmal. Maybe the influx of new cash from Sam's revuilding part will spur some needed renovation and fixes to the remainder of it. Plus, we used to have a Sam's membership when we lived in C'burg, and driving to Roanoke wasn't too terribly long. Since moving further out, we dropped the membership and haven't been there in over 2 years. Having one in C'burg, we'll re-up the membership pretty quickly, especially now that we're trying to start & run a couple different small business ventures.

Definately a Costco is needed in Roanoke. Why not fill these vacant buildings: The old Circuit City store at Valley View, the soon to be vacant WalMart on Franklin Road, Sportsmans Warehouse on Hershberger.
I have been to the Costco in Greensboro and the store is really not that big and it offers much better merchandise than Sams. If not Costco, why not BJ's Wholesale Club? They wanted to come to Roanoke at one time but there were no shopping center sites available!

I was at a Costco at Potomac Mills earlier this year.. Honestly if you didnt see the signage when walking in (or any singage in the store) you coudlnt tell the difference between the two.. The little deli/hotdog/pizza thing at the exit.. the photo lab and the eye glass center right by the door.. same layout..
Unless this location used to be Sam's the design and items carried are the same.
I think something would jumpto me at the old walmart off 220 when they build their new one.. but I am not sure if anyone wants to be in a mile radius of Sam's something out in SW would be ideal...

Talking to the employees at the Tractor Supply co. that just moved, they were told that everything including Goody's old store up to theirs would be demolished. I don't know if the little strip mall near Applebee's will remain.
I know a lot of people in the NRV that drive to the Roanoke location on a regular basis, i'm surprised it took Sam's this long to build one in the area.
