Levi's label will encourage reuse

The next time you buy a new pair of Levi's jeans, it may have a new kind of care label.

By January, the care label of Levi's jeans will include a note encouraging wearers to donate used clothing to Goodwill.

This is a partnership between Levi's and Goodwill to reduce the large amounts of clothing and other textiles that end up in U.S. landfills. It's called "A Care Tag for our Planet."

  1. The Sonic on Apperson is closed. Does this have anything to do with the founder passing away earlier this week? Are all the Sonics closed?

    Inquiring minds want to know!

  2. Ms Jenny: Our 3 yr old grandson enjoyed his Halloween night and got lots of goodies from the stores at Tanglewood. Some stores had run out of candy. However..at the Avenue store they had a sign up saying "Due to legal reasons we cannot hand out candy at Halloween". I hope you can find out what that is all about. Needless to say...my family and I will not give anymore of our business to the Avenue.

You're really not going to give them business because of that. Thats sad that something like that makes you that upset.

  4. Oh brother.

All they need is to hand someone's precious snowflake something they're allergic to, and they're up to their eyeballs in litigation. I can see why a company wouldn't encourage store branches to hand out candy at large.

  5. Hoppy,
That's an interesting stance that the Avenue took to the trick-or-treating mall event. Did the store associates say specifically why there was a concern?

  6. Debi, when I passed that Sonic today it had closed on the sign. They never seamed busy when I passed. Every time we got food from them is was good. Well for fastfood anyway. Better than the Hardee's on 419 or Wendy's near by could ever hop to be. We only eat out once a week at work only to break up the sandwich rut.

  7. Speaking of closing restaurants, does anyone know what's up with the Texas Steakhouse in Christiansburg? We went there about a week ago and they had new menues and were pretty busy (nearly packed), but their marquee this week says 'Come and Say Goodbye' on one side and 'Thanks to All Our Friends' on the other. Are they closing? I haven't had a chance to stop in and find out what's going on, but that would be a blow to the NRV with Shaker's having closed a few months ago already, and I'd be sort of surprised by it seeing as how Sam's Club will be building basically across the street here fairly soon. We had talked with the manager a while back and she had said the economy had slowed business noticably, but that they were alright. Maybe it slowed too much for them to ride it out.

  8. Well, I found out by calling them after I found their number. The guy I spoke with said they are closing November 16th. He said their lease on the building was ending, and that they could not financially justify renewing due to poor revenue projections. He said that there were 2 other locations we could go to, but both are in the Roanoke area, which is too far for us to drive. So, that sort of stinks. They were one of the best steaks in the NRV and had some of the better prices on the food, and the service was a lot better than their competitors from what we experienced. But, I guess that wasn't enough, maybe the glut of restaurants in the mall area combined with the poor economy took their toll, and it would not surprise me if other area eateries experience similar difficulties. Not too long ago, Bookbinders closed and changed to Blackstone Grill, but they seem no busier than they were before.

  9. I hate to hear this about the Texas Steakhouse in Christiansburg. We live in Salem, and would drive to Christiansburg to eat at this restaurant. Service and Food at the Valley View location are just terrible. We did have pretty good luck at the Tanglewood location (which we visited on advice from friends).

Haven't tried the Texas Roadhouse in Christiansburg; we eat at their Lynchburg location when we visit Kohl's. Always very satisfied with service, quality of food, cleanliness (no dusty looking animal heads hanging overhead). Any advice on the Texas Roadhouse in Christiansburg?
