Golf tournament for Cave Spring grad held
The 4th annual Kyle Harmon Memorial Golf Tournament was held in Richmond, VA on September 20, 2008 at The Crossings Golf Course.
Kyle graduated from Cave Spring High School in 1997 and from Virginia Tech Pamplin School of Business in 2001. Kyle went to work for Circuit City in their corporate office in Richmond after graduating from Tech. He married his high school sweetheart, Angie Hodges, built a new home, and died tragically on Feb. 16, 2005 when the plane crashed in Pueblo Colorado, killing Kyle and seven others on a business trip for Circuit City.
Mark Blair, a good friend and golf buddy of Kyle's, has held a tournament every fall since Kyle's death. Kyle's Dad, Mark Harmon, holds a spring tournament every year in Roanoke at Old Monterey Golf Course. The purpose of both tournaments is two fold: to remember a really great guy who loved golf and to raise scholarship funds for a Cave Spring High School senior to go to Virginia Tech's Pamplin School of Business. Family and friends believe that the funds raised at this year's fall tournament in Richmond will reach the $50,000 goal which allows the scholarship to be fully endowed, and enable the scholarship to be awarded this year.
This years Richmond tournament was won by four golfers who drove up from the Roanoke area: Mark Gore, Dale Gore, Tony Baker, and Chris Reynolds. Kyle's brothers, Patrick, Benjamin, and Brian and Kyle's sister, Julie Ann's finance', Norman Pullen also put together a team in the tournament. Kyle's Dad, Mark played on a team with Kyle's wife Angie, and the tournament coordinator Mark Blair.
