North Cross volleyball wins four out of last five games

Heather Donaho at North Cross School sends us this update on the varsity volleyball team, which saw the Raiders win four out of their last five games:

GAME FROM 9/23
The Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Lynchburg and defeated the Gaels from Holy Cross in three straight games. Despite strong jump serves and blocking from Holy Cross, the Raiders played great defense and offense to win the match. Emma Caveness and Anna Black led the defense with 6 digs and 5 digs respectively. Sarah Jessee had 12 assists on the night, 8 of those connecting with Marli Dabareiner for kills. Mary McConaughy added 2 solo blocks in the middle for the Raiders.

GAME FROM 9/25
The Varsity Volleyball team played an exciting match against the Warriors from Grace Christian School. The Raiders started off strong and won the first two games with the Warriors keeping it close. As the match progressed, Grace fought back and won the next three games to take the match. It was a battle of the BRC rivals and an insight into the tournament. The Raiders played extremely well, never gave up, and unfortunately ran out of steam. Sarah Jessee and Marli Dabareiner both had 16 assists on the night, and added 12 and 11 kills respectively. Emma Caveness had 6 kills, Anna Black added 5 and Mary McConaughy had 4 kills. Tremendous defensive plays as well as serving allowed the Raiders to play the way they did. The Raiders look forward to possibly facing the Warriors in the tournament and coming out on top!

GAME FROM 9/26
The Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Suffolk for a matchup with the Division I Nansemond-Suffolk Saints. This was a big win for the Raiders since they are in Division III in the State. It was a battle with the Raiders coming out with the win in five games. The Raiders fought to win games two and four, and then put the Saints away in game five. Sarah Jessee had a career and game high 27 assists with Marli Dabareiner connecting for 18 kills. Emma Caveness added 8 kills and Kaki Comer had 6 service aces.

GAME FROM 9/27
After the win against Nansemond-Suffolk, the Raiders faced The Steward School Saturday morning. The much improved Steward School team took the first game from the Raiders. The Raiders then fought back and won the next three games. Sarah Jessee had 16 assists and a game high, 10 service aces, and 8 kills. Emma Caveness added 9 service aces. Mary McConaughy had 2 solo blocks and put down 7 kills. Marli Dabareiner added 10 kills to the Raiders offense.

GAME FROM 9/29
The Varsity Volleyball team defeated the SouthWest Virginia Home School Association Conquerers in a non-conference matchup. Sarah Jessee had 14 assists and 6 kills on the night. Marli Dabareiner added 6 kills and 8 assists. Kaki Comer led the servers with 8 service aces. It was a nice win to start the week.
