Two students from SWoCo present research, honors project

Hampden-Sydney College seniors, Stephen Donald Berry and Matthew Ryan Hubbard, of Southwest Roanoke County recently presented their Summer Research Honors Projects.

Berry and Hubbard presented their projects in a public presentation at Hampden-Sydney College.

Berry and Hubbard are two of a select group of students who undertake a summer research in conjunction with members of the Hampden-Sydney faculty.  Each project is evaluated on its originality, on the thoroughness of its reserach methods, and on the quality of its findings.

Berry's project, for Economics, was entitled, "An analysis of welfare reform in the United States from 1996-present." He is a graduate of Hidden Valley High School and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene P. Berry of Roanoke.

Hubbard's project, for History, was entitled, "Improving ties with China through a better understanding of its cultural and national identity." He is a graduate of Hidden Valley High School and is the son of Johnnie and Pamela Hubbard of Roanoke.

Hampden-Sydney College first enrolled students in 1775. A private men's college, it is known for its structured liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code, a unique focus on the needs of young men, and a small and nurturing academic environment.
