Person displaced by apartment fire

A fire occurred Monday evening in the 4300 block of Garst Mill Road. Jennifer Conley Sexton, volunteer and marketing coordinator for Roanoke County Fire and Rescue, sent this news release about the fire:

Apartment Fire Displaces One

October 22, 2008 (ROANOKE COUNTY) -- Roanoke County Fire & Rescue was dispatched to the 4300 block of Garst Mill Road just after 7:00 PM this evening.
When fire crews arrived they found smoke showing from an apartment building. Crews from the Cave Spring, Clearbrook and Back Creek stations responded to this fire and had it under control in about 15 minutes. The fire was contained to one apartment. The other seven units in this apartment building were not damaged.
The male resident of this apartment smelled smoke, escaped without injury and called 9-1-1. He is displaced and staying with family. Other residents were able to return to their apartments.
Fire investigators are on scene trying to determine what caused this fire.
