North Cross School's athletic teams advance to state
Four athletic teams from North Cross School have advanced to the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) state tournaments. Varsity soccer, varsity field hockey, varsity volleyball and varsity football have all earned state bids.
“Independent schools have always stressed the three "A's"-- Academics, the Arts, and Athletics-- for all students. Over 85 percent of North Cross School students participate in at least one season of interscholastic sports. To have four of our five fall sports programs advance to the state tournaments is especially gratifying, given so many of these athletes are fine students and participate in drama, art and music as well. It is a fine testament to their dedication, commitment and hard work,” said Headmaster Timothy J. Seeley.
North Cross School’s varsity volleyball team will host the first round match of the (VISAA) state tournament on Tues., Nov 4 at 5 p.m. in the James R. Muscaro gym. The volleyball team finished the regular season with a 17-7 record and are the second seed going into the tournament. They will be playing Fuqua School, which is currently ranked seventh in the state.
The NCS varsity field hockey team advanced to the (VISAA) quarterfinals and will play Fredericksburg Academy on Tues., Nov. 4 at 3:15 p.m. The NCS field hockey team holds the eighth seed, while Fredericksburg Academy is ranked first in the state. This is the first trip to the state tournament since 2002 for the field hockey team.
North Cross School’s football team is ranked second in the state and will host Isle of Wight Academy in a semi-final game on Fri., Nov. 7 at 3 p.m. on Thomas Field. The football team has had an amazing year with a record of nine wins and one loss. The football team’s last trip to the state tournament was in 2004.
The NCS soccer team finished their season with a hard fought loss to the Atlantic Shores Christian School in Chesapeake, VA on Fri., Oct. 31. The team finished seventh in the state and had a 6-2-1 record against (VISAA) Division II teams.
The North Cross School community continues to be very proud of the accomplishments of all its students in the athletic program.
