Shakespeare competition in December
Hey students, want to win a trip to New York? Jane Sandel with the English Speaking Union sent us information about a Shakespeare Competition coming up in December:
The English Speaking Union's Shakespeare Competition will be held on Dec. 6 at 10:00 A.M. at Whitman Auditorium at Virginia Western Community College.
The English Speaking Union is an international organization that promotes communication and peace in the world through the use of the English language. One of its projects is the Shakespeare Competition which the Southwestern Virginia Branch sponsors. Students must recite from memory one of Shakespeare's sonnets and a twenty-line monologue. Ninth - twelfth graders from the area are invited to participate for a chance to win an expense-paid trip to New York in April 2009 to compete in the national contest. The national winner will win an opportunity to go to London for the summer to work in a drama program. Thirteen area schools will participate. This is free to the public.
