Slideshow of Poor Mountain fire
Chris Hale took pictures of the brush fire on Poor Mountain throughout the afternoon and evening on Wednesday, then put together a slideshow to share. They were taken from the Hales' back porch in the Carriage Hills subdivision off Bent Mountain Road. Click here to view the slideshow, which includes the scene shown.

I cannot thank you enough for these photos. We moved to Mount Chestnut about six months ago and fire is my greatest fear. When I saw this line of fire, I couldn't tell how far away it was from our house, my first challenge was getting information about it. I had an urgent need to know for the welfare of my family, my neighbors and all the living creatures on our beautiful mountain. I was especially concerned about the women and men braving the extreme cold on New Year's Eve to protect us. Apparently, SWOCO was on the case. Good job! I also wanted to communicate to folks back home about what I was seeing. These photos tell it all. Thank you for capturing this event. As a result, I am able to revisit it again, more than one month later. Life up here is so precious...and fragile.
