Photos: Colonial Avenue Baptist takes Kentucky kids to Reds game

We had a post July 1 about a mission trip that Colonial Avenue Baptist Church made to Nada, Kentucky.

While there, the church members found one Kentucky youth who was a baseball fan, and had never seen his favorite team, the Cincinnati Reds. Church member Tim Thornhill wrote then that the group resolved to come back and take some of the kids to a Major League game -- and they did. He and Kris Willis were the chaperones.

Here's Tim's account, along with photos, which you can view in the slideshow above or in this gallery format:

Pitching [in one of the photos] is baseball fan Mark from Kentucky. He is the young man who inspired me to go through with the idea to take some kids from our mission trip area in Kentucky to their first big league game to see the Cincinnati Reds, their closest team. Alva Coleman and I realized many people take it for granted that they can travel and see a major league game so we thought it would fun to give back and take some kids with us who hadn't been before and probably wouldn't get many chances. Despite the Reds lack of success lately Mark remains a true fan in the lean times. He carried his glove all day and watched the game intently throughout as did the other boys.Though the Reds lost we all had fun. How can you not when there's hot dogs, pizza and home runs hit by the home team? Next up we'd like to apply this idea to Roanoke kids and our local big league teams, the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals.
