America was wrong

My predictions were spot-on with the guys. Last night Jason Yeager and Robbie Carrico were kicked off. I was wrong when it came to the girls. I didn't expect Alexandrea to go. Did y'all? And what was up with that weird pause when Alaina Whittaker was booted? It was robbery for sure. Alaina is much better than Kady Malloy. Even Kady was surprised. It was clear that everyone thought America voted wrong on that one. Maybe people were just confused. I mean, Kady and Alaina do look alike. How can you really tell the difference?

Who's getting booted tonight?

I think it's going to be:

Jason Yeager (I hope!)
Robbie Carrico (rocker dude with long hair)
(It could either be Robbie or dreds guy Jason Castro, who the judges pretty much destroyed Tuesday night. I like him, though, so I hope he stays.)

Amanda Overmyer (regretfully, but she slaughtered that Kansas song)
Kady Malloy (who has no identity of her own whatsoever)

What do y'all think?

Watching the ladies ... with the ladies

I had a little help tonight evaluating the women's performances. A couple little ladies from down the street, Valee and Sarah, were happy to share their two cents with me after each performance. So I thought we'd look at tonight's show through the eyes of pre-tween girls. (And pre-tween girls know talent ... um, hello "High School Musical" and Hannah Montana?)

Now, Sarah, 9, and Valee, 8, don't usually watch "American Idol," which is good. They weren't at all biased.

I bite my own tongue

Rather than dig through my previous comments to find my exact quote, I'll just summarize here. Last week I think I said something along the lines of "What do they see in David Archuletta?" Or, "Am I missing something when it comes to David Archuletta?" Something like that. I bite my tongue this week. That kid can sing.

Not only did I get chills when he sang "Imagine," but I also got chills again when they recapped the dang performance. It's one thing to say "OK, who does he think he is to try to sing a Freddie Mercury song?" (um, that Luke guy, yeah give it up), but to even ATTEMPT to sing John Lennon? Has any Idol-wannabe ever tried to pull that off? David did. And he nailed it. It was pretty amazing. So amazing, in fact, that I tossed my notes and decided to only write about him tonight. Because, frankly, no one held a candle to that performance.

Skip all your plans

"Idol" is back on tonight and will air three nights this week, so if you have any plans you better push them to Friday. That's what I have to do, anyway.

Basically it's the same format as last week. The guys sing tonight, the girls tomorrow. Then on Thursday four of them will be kicked off. I'll be glad when they merge the two so our weeks aren't so consumed by product placement and fluffy filler segments.

Speaking of filler, I found this story at USA Today that ties Britney Spears (do we need to use her last name anymore?) to three of this season's contestants. According to the story, "Robbie Carrico dated her. Kristy Lee Cook worked for her. Kady Malloy imitated her." Read on for more.

Colton speaks (but not to me)

colton.jpg

I found this brief interview on MTV.com with Staunton boy Colton Berry following his exit Thursday night. Here's a snippet on the whole Ellen DeGeneres-lookalike thing:

Q: When did you notice your resemblance to Ellen DeGeneres? Did someone else point it out?

A: People have been saying it for years. I'm one of her biggest fans. I've always been her fan. One day I kind of looked in the mirror and said, "Maybe everyone's right. [He laughs.] Maybe I do look like Ellen!" So I figured I might as well embrace it.

Q: Has she asked you to be on her show?

A: I have not yet talked to her. I know she called Ryan Seacrest and was laughing with Ryan about the comments that I said. If Ellen's reading this, Ellen, give me a call!

Ellen, if you're reading this blog (totally not realistic, I know), call Colton! (And me!)

You can find the rest of the interview here.

A blubbering mess

I am not a fan of the results shows. For several reasons.

First, I can't stand to watch the contestants sing together. It always reminds me of the Brady Bunch clan singing "It's a Sunshine Day." Did you see just how miserable rocker nurse Amanda looked in that ridiculous outfit? I bet she was thinking twice about whether she really wants to win this thing or not. She looked like a ridiculous sell-out. Same with the Aussie hottie. Some of these people are too talented for that "High School Musical" junk.

Second, it's all about advertising. The show is an hour-long just for advertising reasons. So, unless you record it, it just all--out sucks to watch the whole thing.

Third, those girls crying. OK, are you for real? You barely know the folks who got kicked off and you're blubbering like you've been best friends forever. Aren't you happy they got kicked off? I'd be grinning from ear to ear, frankly. It's so summer camp-like. I'm sure they pledged to call each other every week, too. Yeah, that'll last.

Fourth, singing their finale songs. Of course they aren't going to be good. It's almost like punishment for these people. "Sorry that America didn't like you, but will you please sing your song again for 50 million people? And, um, try not to shake."

I agree with three of the four who got booted. Like I said in an earlier post, I don't think it was Colton's time to go yet. But, I didn't vote, so what can I say really....

Been under the weather

Sorry I haven't posted anything about last night's show. I've been under the weather the past few days and am just coming around. I'll post my thoughts on it here shortly, but I will say that I didn't think Colton should've gotten kicked off yet. I think he was better than Jason Yeager, who sang that terribly boring (and cheesy) rendition of "Moon River."

More to come ... thanks for being patient. And thanks for your feedback!

Who's your favorite?

Ok, kids. This is my last post of the night.

Let's see if we can predict who gets voted off tomorrow night. Leave a comment saying either who you liked, or who you didn't like. Either way if we get enough comments, hopefully we can come up with a close prediction of tomorrow's vote.

Cool? Cool.

What's the deal?

Things I don't like:

- Why is Simon so nice? This is NOT what I signed up for!

- Why isn't Paula drunk anymore? (See above.)

- Temperatures over 90 degrees.

Ok, so that last one has nothing to do with anything. But why IS Simon so nice? I want him to be more... more... Simonesque.

Thoughts?
