Nap time in the sunshine

Bella%20with%20cats.jpg

Bella, 9- or 10-year-old yellow lab, doesn't let a few kitties keep her from catching a nice nap on a sunny day. Pet parent Ellen Tilson of Rural Retreat said Bella has always been fond of the kitties, she even gives them the occassional bath. Ellen said so far she has not been able to get a shot of that, but Ellen, if you ever do, send it our way.

Hope those felines didn't leave tan lines.

  1. The picture is priceless!! Absolutely adorable....what a beautiful and friendly dog with the kitties! My last dog Alex loved one of my cats who just passed away in December...they were always together. Animals seem to just want to get along, be happy and enjoy life!

  2. I wish that was the scene at my house!! There's no way my dog would let the cats lay on her but then I doubt the cats would want to anyway. Congrats to Ellen for her "domestic peace"!!

  3. I had a yellow lab named Sassy and she had a best feline fried named Sammy. Sammy slept curled up next to Sassy and often gave Sassy a bath. I really miss my lab.

  4. YAY Bella! I knew you would be famous! Bella and I live together in the same house. I am a student at Radford University and I miss her so much!! Mom (Ellen) keeps me up to date on her, sending me pictures and I am so happy she made the paper! Believe it or not she loves to run with me. Even though it doesn't look like it, she is a very active dog. :)

  6. I love the picture Ellen! You should be so proud! I know Ellen personally and she has quite a "zoo" of animals and they all seem to live in perfect harmony. She has such a wonderful love of animals.

Foster homes for the holidays

The Roanoke Valley SPCA is participating in the national “Foster A Lonely Pet For the Holidays” pet fostering program.

Over 13,000 pet rescue organizations nationwide are trying to empty the kennels for Christmas, encouraging families to open their home for the holidays to an adoptable pet waiting for a forever home.

Fostered pets can be picked up between December 18-23, and can be returned to the RVSPCA between December 30-January 2.

The RVSPCA will provide all needed supplies and support to the temporary families. You can view all of the pets online at www.rvspca.org, or visit the shelter to meet them.  The goal is to have each of these pets into a home by noon on December 23.

Ann Marie Sweeney, foster coordinator for the RVSPCA, will answer questions about the program for people interested in making this Christmas a happy holiday for a pet in need.  Contact Sweeney at 344-4840, ext. 208 or e-mail asweeney@rvspca.org.
