More Storm pics

I could not resist. Here are two more pics of our new puppy.

And I should clarify this point: He is a pit bull terrier, also known as an American Staffordshire terrier, also known as Petey, the dog in the "Little Rascals" series and the pup in the ads for the Buster Brown company.

What is it with me and dogs that are also corporate icons?

Anyway, the name pit bull has such a negative connotation, and you deal with people like the commenter on this blog who described them as "furry alligators" and the circular thinkers at PETA who believe all my dogs should be destroyed to "save" them from stupid people who make them race or fight.

The only fighting we plan for Storm to do is with stereotypes, and maybe stuffed toys.

  1. Too cute:) All the pit bulls I ever had the pleasure of knowing, were nothing but big babies. And they think they are lapdogs!! Right dog + right owner = bliss;)

  2. What adorable pictures of your puppy!!! The look on his face is so cute and sweet. Give him some hugs and treats from me...and remember when dealing with a "furry alligator" to give extra special kisses. (I had almost forgotten about that crazy remark from somebody...I better go check on my "tiger" that is lurking around here waiting for breakfast!) Enjoy!!!!

  3. What a cutie!! I'm glad your other dogs welcomed the new baby. The cats may be bent out of shape but you know they are secretly fascinted with the new addition!

  4. He looks like he has grown in the past week!!! I'm so glad things are going well. And I'm so happy he has such wonderful "forever parents". It made giving him up that much easier!! And given his little snapping jaw when he tries to play too hard - "furry alligator" may not be a bad name for him! *smirk*

  5. He is so cute! Don't worry, Cesar Milan has sweet pit bulls. He is trying to raise awareness that they are not all bad, too. He has "Profiles" of his pack members online and lots of them are pit bulls: http://www.cesarmillaninc.com/packprofiles/archive_articles.php

Foster homes for the holidays

The Roanoke Valley SPCA is participating in the national “Foster A Lonely Pet For the Holidays” pet fostering program.

Over 13,000 pet rescue organizations nationwide are trying to empty the kennels for Christmas, encouraging families to open their home for the holidays to an adoptable pet waiting for a forever home.

Fostered pets can be picked up between December 18-23, and can be returned to the RVSPCA between December 30-January 2.

The RVSPCA will provide all needed supplies and support to the temporary families. You can view all of the pets online at www.rvspca.org, or visit the shelter to meet them.  The goal is to have each of these pets into a home by noon on December 23.

Ann Marie Sweeney, foster coordinator for the RVSPCA, will answer questions about the program for people interested in making this Christmas a happy holiday for a pet in need.  Contact Sweeney at 344-4840, ext. 208 or e-mail asweeney@rvspca.org.
