Booscotti a big hit at my house

Booscotti.jpg

I was adorably attacked by my trio of pooches last night when I brought home a bag of Rachael Ray's Isaboo's Booscotti peanut butter cookies ($3.99 at Kroger.)

Coral suffered a little boo-boo yesterday, a bad cut in the webbing between two of her toes, that required a trip to the vet and ended up with her wearing a little bootie style bandage on her foot.

Since she was having a rough day, I picked up the cookies on the way home as a little treat. I was curious to see if it was worth the hype.

Now granted, I don't have a dog that would turn their nose up to any cookie, but they do have their preferences. They swarm me like bees when I bake them cookies, and we brought home a bag of blueberry cookies from PetsMart a few weeks ago that drove them wild.

Ray's bag of treats elicted pretty much the same reaction. The cookies are small, but they smell amazingly fresh and nutty. After I fed Coral a few and then emptied the bag into our doggy cookie jar, she looked genuinely sad. When I opened the jar later and gave one to each dog, Storm and Dexter looked like I had given them crack and they needed another fix.

So, even if you, like blog reader Boxers, are not a fan of Ray's food for people, her dog treats get a ringing endorsement from my pups. If you buy a bag, post a review from your pooch.

  1. I found the recipe for those cookies on her website (I think) a few months ago and printed it out with every intention of making some from scratch for my dog. Well, the recipe is still in the office because I am a bad pet mom when it comes to cooking! Maybe I'll get off my lazy rear and whip some up soon. If I do, I'll let you know how they turn out.

  2. You are an excellent pet parent, Kim.

My dogs LOVE home baked cookies, but they will have to wait until fall to get any lovin' from my oven. We only fire up the grill in the summer.

  3. I have a couple of Ray's cookbooks (my wife knows I think she's cute ;) ), and though I like the food I still got a hearty laugh out of Boxers' comment.

Wife bakes up some biscuits for Bauer and his friends sometimes. She enjoys decorating bags of the goodies and delivering them to our neighbors. We haven't tried Booscotis yet, but may have to. I know Bauer loves PB.

  4. I thought I heard that the proceeds from her dog and cat foods were going to charity - is that true?

I saw a biography on of her last weekend - it was fascinating! She really built herself up from a waitress to a grocery store buyer and started her "30 Minute Meals" to get people in her grocery store to buy more gourmet items by teaching them how to cook with them.

I'm sure my dog would love them - she absolutely adores anything with peanut butter.

Foster homes for the holidays

The Roanoke Valley SPCA is participating in the national “Foster A Lonely Pet For the Holidays” pet fostering program.

Over 13,000 pet rescue organizations nationwide are trying to empty the kennels for Christmas, encouraging families to open their home for the holidays to an adoptable pet waiting for a forever home.

Fostered pets can be picked up between December 18-23, and can be returned to the RVSPCA between December 30-January 2.

The RVSPCA will provide all needed supplies and support to the temporary families. You can view all of the pets online at www.rvspca.org, or visit the shelter to meet them.  The goal is to have each of these pets into a home by noon on December 23.

Ann Marie Sweeney, foster coordinator for the RVSPCA, will answer questions about the program for people interested in making this Christmas a happy holiday for a pet in need.  Contact Sweeney at 344-4840, ext. 208 or e-mail asweeney@rvspca.org.
