The Happy Wag

You snooze, they win

What's better than a warm, late-summer Sunday, when you can leave your windows and patio door open to get some fresh air while you enjoy the return of professional football?

Not much I would say.

But you know what you don't want to do on a Sunday afternoon while watching football? You don't want to leave the dogs' toy box open and then take a little snooze.

Because when you wake up, you find this on your patio.

Right, honey?

  1. Looks like my house, except my Lab very carefully pulls all the stuffing out and then removes the heads, arms and legs from all of her stuffed animals, so there are stuffed animal parts all over the house. She'll still play with the flat headless, armless, legless animals and the removed parts too.

  5. Looks like a mess my dog leaves when he finish eating and playing...

    A crime scene.

It would be nice if your Roanoke Times got on board with other websites and allowed the user download a photo as an avatar instead of using this symbols that leaves a lot of us baffled.

  6. That looks like the scene in my dining room one day when I decided to take a nap. Couch destroyed, stuffing everywhere and dear Holly laying in the middle of it looking very content. Dogs! Don't we love them!

  7. That's a pretty common sight at my house. Except with 2 pits, you also need the chewed pieces of "indestructable" Kongs strewn all over the floor. :)

    Indestructable, my foot!

  8. I tried getting my beagle those stuffed animals with no stuffing - it didn't matter, she just ended up tearing the outside into little pieces and leaving them all over the house.

Foster homes for the holidays

The Roanoke Valley SPCA is participating in the national “Foster A Lonely Pet For the Holidays” pet fostering program.

Over 13,000 pet rescue organizations nationwide are trying to empty the kennels for Christmas, encouraging families to open their home for the holidays to an adoptable pet waiting for a forever home.

Fostered pets can be picked up between December 18-23, and can be returned to the RVSPCA between December 30-January 2.

The RVSPCA will provide all needed supplies and support to the temporary families. You can view all of the pets online at www.rvspca.org, or visit the shelter to meet them.  The goal is to have each of these pets into a home by noon on December 23.

Ann Marie Sweeney, foster coordinator for the RVSPCA, will answer questions about the program for people interested in making this Christmas a happy holiday for a pet in need.  Contact Sweeney at 344-4840, ext. 208 or e-mail asweeney@rvspca.org.
