Lesson never learned

I spent the weekend feeling poorly (my default setting lately) and barely got anything done but a few loads of laundry.

What do they say about doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result? Foolish or crazy, perhaps both? After more than seven years living with Thai, you would think I would learn not leave the clean, folded laundry in the sunniest spot of the house.

Sadly, no, I have not learned that lesson. Then I wonder why my clothes are always full of animal hair.

At least he let me finish folding and pile more laundry in around him.

  1. I have the opposite problem. My cat waits until the laundry is folded then she jumps in the basket and won't let me put the clothes back in it. Sometimes if I have a bunch of socks in the basket she'll go ahead and jump in before I'm done. Then, as if she owned the basket, she'll attack me as I try to remove the socks from around her. I can usually get her out with a little coaxing but heaven forbid you try to remove her from a box! She will defend a box from her siblings - cat and dog alike - as if it was the greatest thing ever!

  2. I have yet another issue. My 3 month boxer pup Kona and 4yr old boxer Angus will rifle thru the clean laundry to be the first to retrieve the used dryer sheet. I am followed thru the house until the laundry is put down on the bed so they can get to it.

  3. Stormy used to "sort" the laundry for me by removing all the socks. He could go through the entire basket and only pick out the socks. He seems to have outgrown this, which is good for us because there are fewer holes in our socks, but a little sad because he's growing up.

  4. But Nona how could you blame Thai? He found the perfect spot to lay down. It just happens to have a bunch of clothes there to add some cushion and it's in the sun. My female cat, Abby, can hardly wait til I set some clothes on the bed to lay down on them. She will not let me put them away. I guess it is all about comfort.

  5. There seems to be something about the clothes basket that attracts kitties to lie in it and dogs to steal socks out of it! I have always had this problem too. My clothes always have pet hair on them and my socks have little tiny holes from dog teeth!

  6. I have three precious kitties (they will be 9 weeks old tomorrow) that would love to be able to have a laundry basket to curl up in. If anyone knows of a wonderful home for these babies. Please let me know! They are all females.

  7. My cat "collects" socks. Much like a mama cat will "relocate" her kittens, she will find only the socks in any clothes basket and carry them to her chosen "place" for them. Upstairs, downstairs, all over the floor. And she makes this precious little mewing noise as she goes about her job. Sadly it is most annoying when she relocates in the middles of the night, but she is a kitty on a mission.

Foster homes for the holidays

The Roanoke Valley SPCA is participating in the national “Foster A Lonely Pet For the Holidays” pet fostering program.

Over 13,000 pet rescue organizations nationwide are trying to empty the kennels for Christmas, encouraging families to open their home for the holidays to an adoptable pet waiting for a forever home.

Fostered pets can be picked up between December 18-23, and can be returned to the RVSPCA between December 30-January 2.

The RVSPCA will provide all needed supplies and support to the temporary families. You can view all of the pets online at www.rvspca.org, or visit the shelter to meet them.  The goal is to have each of these pets into a home by noon on December 23.

Ann Marie Sweeney, foster coordinator for the RVSPCA, will answer questions about the program for people interested in making this Christmas a happy holiday for a pet in need.  Contact Sweeney at 344-4840, ext. 208 or e-mail asweeney@rvspca.org.
