Back with a Wag and giving away goodies
I got my flu-ridden self feeling better over the weekend and came back to work today. It took many hours and a few tears, but I finally found the bottom of my inbox and the top of my desk.
Not that I've dealt with everything, mind you, but at least it's all sorted and prioritized, and the hottest fires are, at least temporarily, doused.
But I did get some cool swag delivered to my lonely office while I was away. And good stuff sent to me finds it's way to you.
I got this gorgeous book, "Why Dogs are Better than Cats"by Bradley Trevor Greive with photographs by Rachael Hale. Now before you start bombing me with comments, I certainly did not mean to imply I agree with the title. You know I love my cat and my pack of pooches equally.
The inside cover indicates that the author is simply "pro-dog, not anti-cat." But the back cover carries the text "Dogs are inherently good. Cats are something else entirely."
So, this book, loaded with charming photos and witty observations about felines and canines, will go to the reader that writes a brief comment explaining why they agree with the book's premise that pooches are superior to kitties. Humor will be count heavily toward a winning entry.
Please remember that many feline fans read this blog, so let's not be too harsh. And please refrain from making creative suggestions on how to quickly lead a cat through all nine of his lives. That's just creepy.
And fear not, cat fanciers, you will have the chance to voice your opposing viewpoint, too. I promise.
I'll take comments until Friday morning at 10 a.m. The best one, as judged by a panel of roanoke.com bloggers, gets the book.

Cats are delightful creatures, but dogs will leave snacks for you in your bed. They're also so happy to see you every time you come home that they do a little (or big) tap dance.

cats play hard-to-get; dogs don't. example:
my next-door neighbor has a cat. this cat, by all appearances, is fascinated by my dog and wants to be friends. he sits outside of my doors and windows and meows and stares at the dog. he purrs and trots over to us when we're out taking care of doggie business. so my poor dog thinks, hey great, this guy wants to be buds. so mimicking the cat, he trots over to him, sniffs him, and stands still. the cat hisses, shows his claws, and swats at my dog. so my dog backs off. then the cat comes over and starts nuzzling my dog's legs. my dog and i are completely confused!! i know where i stand with my dog; you never know where you stand with a cat.

I have no problems with cats, I am just not a cat person. I agree with the title of this book for the following reasons:
-Dogs are always down for whatever just as long as its with you, their pack leader. With cats, its on their time.
-They hardly ever give attitude, they just pout. Cats...well...what can I say? They are all attitude.
-Dogs are not fussy eaters. They will literally eat anything. Cats are finicky.
-You can play rough games with your dog and they dont run and hide.
-Dogs always make you laugh and keep you entertained. Cats can too, but dogs just do it differently.
-You can walk a dog on a leash, but they end up walking you.
-You can be pack leader to a dog and they are okay with it. Cats just dont roll like that! They own you.
-A warm, sloppy kiss from your pooch always makes your day!
-Who can resist a wagging tail?
-Dogs can root you out of your own bed. They also make good foot warmers and bed bugs...until they root you out and get in your spot.
-Dogs protect no matter what the intruder. Cats run and hide.
-Dogs are used on in a wide array of law enforcement jobs. How many cats do you see wearing a badge?
-Dogs can figure out how to lift the trashcan lid, open the gate...shall I go on here?!
-If you dont pay attention to a dog, they do something to make you. Cats can do this too, but dogs tear/chew it up or carry it off.
-Watching them dream is great!
This is all I can think of for now. Like I said above, I have no problems with cats, but I am just a dog person.

I forgot one..
-Dogs come in all sizes so you can choose which size is for you. Not so many choices with cats.

I prefer my dogs because they at least let me pretend that I am in charge.

Okeeey.
Dogs-Loyal, Obedient, Good kissers, Won't claw you do death, Are kind enough to clear your counters of food that would SURELY attract ants and other vermin.
Cats-Cheaters, Cheaters, CHEATERS... Picky, Demand that YOU obey THEM, claw you, Get hairballs, Only act like they love you so they can get what they want.
If your house is on fire a dog will tell you, a cat will just sneak out of the house.
When you are sad, a dog will listen and give you a sholder to cry on. A cat doesn't care and will likely avoid you like the plague.
P.s. I hope you are feeling better!!

Dogs are very loyal to their master, where cats could care less. You can own a dog, but you can never own a cat. They own you!

Dogs would read the book and think - "No, we are all the same" WAG WAG WAG, SNIFF SNIFF SNIFF.
Cats would read the title and think "Stupid humans. Evolution is such a slow process for them."

Dogs rescue people from all kinds of situations. Cats sit back, yawn and then take a nap.
Dogs are in movies. When is the last time there was a movie called 101 Kitty Cats?
Dogs get excited to go for rides in the car. I have yet to see a cat riding happily in the car.
Dogs guard the house and bark at anyone coming near the door. Ever see a crook run from a door after hearing a meow?
Dogs are great! I love cats also!

Dogs laugh WITH you; cats laugh AT you.
Dogs cry WITH you; cats laugh AT you.
Dogs try to get INTO your lap; cats laugh at them FROM your lap.
