It looks like we've dodged the ice
A couple of weak showers have moved through the Roanoke Valley with temperatures just above freezing, and more showers are on the way from the west, though they are diminishing somewhat in intensity and areal coverage. While we can't rule out a few icy spots on bridges and overpasses this afternoon, it would appear that we have essentially dodged this winter weather threat in most of Southwest Virginia.

Kevin, you da Man!! Once again, while the rest of the media was like Henny Penny running around saying "the sky is falling" ie. Big storm coming, we all gonna die, you once again were accurate, even thought I really wanted the "BIG STORM". I have come to rely on you for the real story, while my bride counts on WVTF radio for her weather. And as I posted last time, again we get all charged up for the BIG ONE and it turns out to be a little fizzle. Keep it up. You and Angleberger are the best things the Times has. Peter

Thanks for your support, Peter. I wish I had pulled the plug on this even earlier. That big dry slot over Tennessee yesterday was a big flashing neon sign. Forecasting multiple small pieces of atmospheric energy moving through is far more problematic than the "big storm" would be. There's enough crow to go around on this one, me included. Example: I had this great line on Thursday -- "Wintry precipitation is all but absolutely certain." Yeah, obviously, it wasn't close to certain ...
