Frost advisory for Thursday morning west of Roanoke

UPDATED 12:20 P.M.: Several counties west of the Roanoke Valley are under a frost advisory for Thursday morning.  END UPDATE

You might need a jacket this morning with temperatures in the 40s to low 50s, but autumn chill will settle in big-time by Thursday morning. Some valleys could see lows a few degrees above freezing, with frost possible, with most everybody in Southwest Virginia no warmer than the low 40s. Temperatures will moderate some by the weekend, but it does appear that rather mild fall weather is with us for several days.

  1. Just curious but why is Carroll County and Galax left out of the Frost Advisory? It makes no sense. It's no different Geography wise than Allegahny County NC, and Floyd, the two counties its parralled by. So what gives? Carroll county lacks a true "deep" valley. ( something floyd lacks, too) It is more spread out, but still high elevation and mountainous so what gives?

  2. The nearby Kings Weather Station, just outside of Wytheville here, had 32.2 this morning. I'm not sure what my low was, but the roofs were all white and so were the lawns.

  3. The temp at my house read 37 this morning, but I had a nice layer of frost on the car, and the back window had frozen dew, topped with frost. Definitely fall is in the air now.

  4. We had 40 degrees at our house in Newport this morning. Not as bad as I was expecting.
