The Wild Life, with Mark Taylor

A cool duck hunting pic on a good duck hunting day

My friend Patrick Baker (left) sent me this shot of him and his uncle after a good day of duck hunting aboard "The Deathstar" boat earlier this season on the Ohio River. It seems a fitting picture for a cold, dreary day like today.

Of course, even though it's what many would consider great duck hunting weather, there's no duck hunting. The season ended Saturday.

Baker, an Abingdon lawyer who also does some outdoors writing, said a season of 5 a.m. wake-ups and long drives took its toll and he was ready for the season to end.

I hate to say I didn't get out on a single duck hunt. I could probably come up with a half-dozen excuses but the bottom line is I just didn't have the gumption to make it happen.

I do remain hopeful that I can maybe get a final goose hunt in before that season closes in a couple of weeks.

I've found several flaws in your comment, 1) Shouldn't you be in or heading to school before 8:21 AM time of your post?

    2) the trailing of periods to continue a thought is not typical of a 12 yr old.

    3) Every word in your comment is spelled correctly until you got to the word what too "wat". Outside of your ic, h8, u it's hard for me to believe that a 12 year old can spell straight correctly, but can't get the word what right.

    4) Your post reads similar to another person named Jessie that tried to admonish a deer hunter photo 2 years ago and a person that posted on Shanna Flowers Blog stated that guns are only used to kill people and harmless animals and few other things which later caused her to pull the comment.

There is a web site called Student Voices as they discuss hunting: Speak Out

How should Pennsylvania deal with its deer population?

Now if you are a 12 year old kid and find hunting photos disgusting why look at something that will upset you or consider that thought the next time you take a bite out your cheese burgers or eat your hot dog.

If you are the anti-hunting Adult named Jessie shame on you for pretending to be a child because action like that garner no legitimacy here.

If am wrong accept my apology, but I bet you $20.00 dollars you're no 12 old.

I believe that the population is getting out of control, but with the price of licenses increasing, there will be less hunters hunting, and in the long run, if there is less deer, even more hunters will refuse to hunt.

If we're paying over $25 and there's less deer, people are going to simply give up and get tired of putting money in if there's no deer to hunt.

Hunting has been going on since the beginning of time. Now is not the time to be worrying about the deer population. I won't lie; I like a good venison steak now and then. :)

Something needs to be done about the deer population because my grandmother and mother died when their car hit a deer and a tree. Christmas will never be the same.

Jessie don't pretend to be a child they can speak for themselves.
