Don Barger's massive 11-pointer from Botetourt
Since he was a young tot, Donnie Barger has been tagging along with his father, Don Barger, in the woods. "He taught me everything I know from the time I was 5 years old and I haven't missed a hunting season with him in 30 years," the son reported, proudly.
So Donnie didn't mind giving his dad a hand pulling this monster buck out of the woods on Oct. 12.
The elder Barger, who is 63, shot the huge 11-pointer on private land in Botetourt County, not far from the family home in Buchanan.
If you're wondering where those three extra points are, they are short stickers on the massive bases of these antlers. This is really just a mainframe 8-pointer. According to Donnie Barger, who sent in the shot, the deer had an inside spread of 21 inches and those G-2s measure 12 inches.
Mainframe eights don't get much bigger than this in Virginia.

Good job Don! I had heard from several people it was a really nice deer. It will make Lipes have to turn up the wick now won't it. I liked that reference about the "elder" Barger. LOL.Leave us some game too. See ya.

Congrats Don! That is a great deer for anywhere, not just Virginia. Hopefully he has spread some genes the last few years so you will have future opportunities at more giants.

Great deer Mr. Barger!!!
Wish my dad could have handed me down some huntin' knowledge, but he plays golf and smokes cigars. Still love him though and enjoy our time on the greens cussing that lil' white ball. My uncles and my friends taught me the wise ways of a woodsman the last 7 years and I'm still learning. Hopefully I can pass down knowledge and spend time in the tree with my boy soon. Congradulations on a fine deer and good luck to you and your son the rest of the season.
