The Wild Life, with Mark Taylor

A great buck for Ralph and Chris Barton

With a day off of school for 8-year-old Chris, Ralph and his son headed to a private land spot has in Bedford County.

After Ralph got a shot at this seven-pointer, he let Chris help with the tracking, the field dressing and then the skinning -- all important parts of the whole process. He included a traditional hero shot of him and Chris with the deer, but I really loved this picture.

Here's what Ralph wrote about the hunt: "All in all it was a wonderful father-son day.... a small buck but a very special one all the same. To me the real "trophy" has nothing to do with the size of the animal..... the real trophy is the HUNT itself."

Hey, can anyone tell that I'm getting slammed with pictures? Wow. This is starting to feel like work!

  1. Killing a deer makes the hunt even more special. It's a blessing to be able to even get a chance to go hunting let-alone killing a deer. I've always been told that Killing an animal is the easy part, the hard part is what happens afterwards. It's messy but its all part of the game.

Nice buck Ralph and Chris! Keep us posted on your hunts and congradulations to you both on a fine deer!

  2. Good work men. I can remember clearly many hunts I took with my dad at a young age. Keep building memories because they are what this hunting addiction is all about.

  6. Real hands on action!

Glad to see a child getting his hands dirty helping the family unit sustain itself, in stead of video game controllers in his hands.
