Chris Vaughn with a Bedford County nine-pointer
Chris Vaughn shot this tall nine-pointer on the rifle opener in Bedford County.
Vaughn, who previously killed a doe with his bow, took time in his e-mail note to talk about his approach to this season. He went in with a goal to hunt areas where he had the best chance of seeing deer. He said he has seen deer on almost every hunt and each time he sees that first deer of the day it feels good to have accomplished that goal. That doesn't sound like a bad way to look at hunting, especially for hunters who have to balance a passion for the woods with home and work priorities.

A lot can be learned by taking your time and enjoying the scenery.

Congratulations on your buck Chris! I always enjoys listening to your latest hunting story. You are an excellent hunter and an even better friend! Also, thank you for passing on the hunting tradition to your son! He is the future of our sport and I believe he will get that buck soon!

That's exactly how I look at it. I could careless if I kill one, just as long as I'm seeing deer and knowing that they have no idea that I am around..... It's an accomplishment for me! Making the kill just makes the day even better.
Congradulations Chris on a fine looking buck and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your son.
