March 04, 2011 Sandwich artist Brenda Cifuentas makes a sub at the Subway store in the Towers shopping center. Many restaurants and grocers locally and nationally are having to make adjustments because of increases in the costs of tomatoes and other produce, as a result of a freeze that damaged crops in Mexico and Florida. At Subway locations, employees are trying to preserve the red fruit by placing fewer slices on sandwiches. Also, the restaurants are limiting the use of green peppers, another high priced commodity.
