October is here — which means Halloween is right around the corner. Yikes!
Halloween is a holiday that can get expensive quickly. Buying candy, décor and costumes is a lot of prep for one night’s worth of activities. Parents especially know the pain of purchasing a pricey costume their child will probably only fit into for one year.
One year when I was a kid I wore a simple pumpkin costume my grandmother made. Each of my siblings had worn the costume before me, and the only investment each time was a fresh pair of tights and bunch of crumpled up newspaper to stuff the body of the outfit. It’s safe to say that costume was budget friendly. Since then I’ve always fashioned my costumes out of bits and pieces I can find in my own closet, from Goodwill or in the bargain bin at other stores.
So what’s your solution to the expensive Halloween costume? Have you mixed-and-matched pieces from around your home to create a great costume for you or a family member, or are you crafty enough to sew-up a masterpiece?
