Know of any other great coupons I missed? Share them!

(Updated, 11:40 a.m.) JC Penney brings back coupons

jcp_Flag_4c_A

(Update, 11:40 a.m.:
I received this message from Kate Coultas, a JC Penney representative:

“…Along with a return to targeted, meaningful sales offering even lower prices – which we announced in January – we will now also be offering coupons as an extra shopping incentive around key shopping periods and as an invitation to welcome customers to check out the exciting new brands and shops now available at jcpenney. Today’s coupon is great timing as our new Joe Fresh shops open this week.  While we are not disclosing the exact number of planned coupons for competitive reasons, we won’t feature nearly as many as we used to do before the transformation. The purpose of our renewed promotion strategy is very simple: drive traffic to our stores by reconnecting with our core customers and enticing new customers to try jcp.”

For more information about the Joe Fresh shop, click the link below to read my column from March 2 or visit Amanda Codispoti’s Storefront blog.
End update)

Well, something must have changed between now and my update on JC Penney on March 2 — there’s a new JC Penney coupon available today.

Click here and you’ll find a coupon offering $10 off a $50 purchase. Print the coupon out to use in stores or use the code SPENDIT for online orders. This coupon expires on Sunday, March 17.

I’ve contacted a JC Penney rep and hope to have more information about the return of coupons by this afternoon. I’ll update as I learn more.

(Updated) CVS Deal of the Day: $2 off a purchase of $10 or more

CVS
(Update: It looks like CVS had a print limit on this deal and it has already been reached. That was fast! Congrats to those of you who jumped on it early. If the retailer decides to add more I’ll update again.)

If you’ve never checked out the Deal of the Day section of CVS’ website, today would be a great time to start.

Head over there now and print your coupon for $2 off a purchase of $10 or more. This coupon won’t be available after midnight, so print it now before you forget.

This coupon is valid on purchases today and tomorrow (March 12 and 13) in stores only. Exclusions include alcohol, gift cards, lottery, money orders, prescriptions, postage stamps, pre-paid cards, tobacco products or items reimbursed by a governmental program. Additionally, this coupon cannot be combined with any other CVS/pharmacy coupons (like a percentage off coupon, it should still work with Extra Bucks).

Note: This is a popular deal so the website is moving pretty slow. Be patient and it will eventually load.

(UPDATED: 5:30 p.m.) Election Day Freebies and Deals

You can get this "Indivisible" bracelet for free by visiting Starbucks today.

It’s a big day for our country, and making Election Day even more exciting are these retailers and restaurants are offering voters freebies. As usual, these deals are at participating locations only so you might consider calling ahead in some cases.

I’ll update this list as the day goes on if I hear of anything new, and feel free to share any deals you come across in the comments section below.

Starbucks is giving out free Indivisible bracelets all day while supplies last. Why? Click here to read more.

Texas Tavern in downtown Roanoke is offering a free bowl of chile to any customers who come in with an “I voted” sticker between 6 a.m. and midnight. Click here for more details.

Bojangles is offering those with an “I voted” sticker a free cup of coffee with any purchase today. Click here for more details.

The New York Times (click here) and Wall Street Journal (click here) are both offering free unlimited website access today while the numbers unfold. Of course, you can also get all of your local updates for free from The Roanoke Times here.

Visit Olive Garden with your “I voted” sticker and you’ll be rewarded with a free dolcini (one of the restaurant’s “little dessert treats”) with the purchase of any adult entree. Click here for more details.

Chili’s is offering customers a free appetizer with this printable coupon.

Also, here’s a list of online retailers offering special promo codes today.

[UPDATE: The River and Rail on Crystal Spring Avenue in Roanoke is offering customers who visit today with an "I voted" sticker $5 off each entree and one complimentary "For the Table" order per table. To view the menu, click here.

Also, I've seen reports on other blogs and news sites about Krispy Kreme, 7-Eleven and Chick-Fil-A locations offering voters special freebies. I've been in contact with the companies and all of these reports are false.]

[UPDATE: Growler's American Grill and Venue in Towers Mall is offering customers with an "I voted" sticker 10% off food purchases, plus other specials. See the restaurant's Facebook page for more information.]

[UPDATE: Growler's American Grill has extended its deal to all customers who make food purchases this evening, no voting sticker required.]

Additionally, Politico posted this interesting article earlier this week explaining why it’s actually illegal for companies to offer freebies and discounts to voters. If no proof of voting is required, however, the deal is legal (like the coupon from Chili’s or the bracelet from Starbucks). It will be interesting to see how restaurants and retailers react.

Oct. 27: S & W Market to Hold Grand Opening at 16 West Marketplace
New downtown grocery store will offer in-store tastings and special deals during opening

Roanoke, Va. (October 18, 2012) – S & W Market at 16 West Marketplace in downtown Roanoke will hold its grand opening on Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The European-style downtown grocery store will focus on offering fresh, local, organic products and gourmet foods, including a fresh soup and organic-focused salad bar. In addition, craft brews and specialty wines will be available.

Boar’s Head deli meats and cheeses, as well as cheeses from around the world, will be available at the deli, along with made to order gourmet wraps and sandwiches. To be added later, cuisine-to-go options will offer hot daily specials for shoppers to take home for lunch or dinner. Co-owners of Café 16, Mark Linson and Amelia Glaser, who will also own and manage S & W Market, say the robust deli service will allow them to cater business functions and private parties as well.

“We both share the love of entertaining and designing catered events for each client’s specific desires,” said Mark Linson, co-owner of Cafe16 and S & W Market.  “Amelia will head up the cheese & deli shop, helping to guide our guests in the right direction and personalize catering orders.  In addition to produce and kitchen management, I will ensure our offerings are creative, inspired, and fresh as possible.”

Produce at S & W Market will be provided by Roanoke Fruit & Produce Company, Good Food Good People (local produce), and Cavalier Produce (Richmond, Va. – local produce supplier).  Additionally, customers will be able to choose from unique offerings from Stonewall Kitchen (including wild Maine blueberry Jam, blue cheese & herb mustard, and maple pumpkin butter) to gourmet crackers that will complement the variety of specialty cheeses in the deli.  Items available on a limited basis include personal care items and household care items.

During the grand opening, S &W Market will offer free giveaways and samples as well as coupons for $5 off a first purchase of $25 or more.

S & W Market will be open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be closed on Sundays. Cafe 16 hours will expand to Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed Sundays.

S & W Market is the latest offering at 16 West Marketplace which caters to the healthy, innovative, and savvy tastes of those who live, work and frequent downtown Roanoke. Located in the former S&W Cafeteria at 16 West Church Avenue, just off Jefferson Street, the historic building has been restored to its original art-deco splendor under the direction of Spectrum Design, a Roanoke-based architectural and engineering firm located in the Market area. In addition to S & W Market and Café 16, the building currently houses Carilion’s RAC Xpress, Fleda A. Ring Artworks, Core Chiropractic and Wellness Center and eight apartments. A restaurant, The Cork and Crust, also scheduled to open in the near future, will feature fresh, organic, localvore, artisan pizzas and daily specials.
