Big news for Adult Care Center on its 25th anniversary

The Adult Care Center of the Roanoke Valley announced plans to consolidate its two centers to create a new facility that will be located on about two acres of land across from the Veteran Affairs Medical Center near the Salem/Roanoke City line on Boulevard, which also houses the Salem branch of the center.

In addition to services offered through the two existing centers, the new facility will offer bathing, beauty and barber shop, and podiatry for program participants. They hope to break ground this summer. Current plans estimate that the project will be completed in about two years, according to program director Sue Nutter.

The idea for consolidating the two centers into "a home of our own," was presented to the Adult Day Care Center's board in August of last year. Members of planning and vision committees researched the move carefully, visiting other adult daycare centers in the state, especially one in Martinsville.

Keeping the center close to the VA was crucial for participants' needs and accessibility purposes. In addition to having the plethora of services available to veterans nearby, Lewis Gale and different Carilion centers are within five to ten miles. "We've had a lot of support from the VA. When we had to close the Liberty Center for about five months, they helped us...we only lost one participant" Doug Rosier, Chairman of the center's board.
