Coming this week: New website, new paper

Later this week, we'll be expanding So Salem in two big ways.

First, we'll be adding a full website for Salem and western Roanoke County to complement the news blog you're looking at now. We'll talk more about that when it goes up and we can point to some of the features.

Second, we'll be launching our print edition of So Salem on Friday. It will be a new weekly newspaper to provide community news to Salem and western Roanoke County residents.

There are three ways you'll be able to get the print version of So Salem.

* If you're a subscriber to The Roanoke Times and live in Salem or western Roanoke County, you'll find it each Friday in your regular newspaper delivery.

* If you're not a subscriber, but still live in Salem or western Roanoke County, you'll have it mailed to you each week as part of the Simply Savings advertising flier you now receive. For most of you, it should arrive on Friday or Saturday, depending on postal delivery. If that uncertainty sounds like a plug for subscribing, well, our circulation department will be happy to take care of that.

Between those two methods, we figure we'll reach more than 90 percent of the households in Salem and western Roanoke County.

* Nevertheless, there's a third way you can get the new So Salem -- we'll have free copies to give away at certain locations. Check back with us later in the week and we'll tell you what those are.

However you get So Salem, we'd love for you to share your news and photos with us. If it's important to you and your friends of neighbors, it's important to us. You can email us at: news@sosalem.com.

You can also contact our community journalist for So Salem -- Miranda Adkins (that's her there on the right) at miranda.adkins@sosalem.com. And when she's not out and about in Salem and western Roanoke County, you can find Miranda working in our new Salem "bureau" -- otherwise known as the Mill Mountain Coffee & Tea on Main Street in downtown Salem. We'll be posting office hours for her, too, so keep checking back.
