Salem, Roanoke County crime maps updated through late April

DataSphereLogoSmall.gif

We’ve just updated our Roanoke Valley crime map with the latest offenses from Salem and western Roanoke County.

The Salem offenses go through Sunday, April 27. The Roanoke County offenses go through Saturday, April 26. We got an update from Salem last week, but not from Roanoke County – so this update represents two weeks worth of new data from the Roanoke County Police Department.

During the past week, Salem had 9 larcenies, 2 burglaries and 1 robbery. (Note that this update came before today’s fatal shooting, which will be reflected in next week’s update — but is already noted on our Roanoke Valley homicide map.) And because Salem police provide information on more crimes than other localities, we also have a more detailed Salem crime map.

The past two weeks have been quiet ones in western Roanoke County — one larceny and one aggravated assault.

The Roanoke Valley map sits over a searchable database that has data for Roanoke, Roanoke County and Salem, so you can search it however you like — by date, by locality, by offense. Our data delivery editor, Matt Chittum, has a guide to all the ways you can use the data — which is part of our Datasphere of other data sites. Among the more popular search functions there now: A database of trophy fish in Virginia. We even have a do-it-yourself map to track bear sightings in unusual places.
