More than 160 kids caught the reading bug todayPosted Jun18, 2008 at 02:59 PM
More than 160 kids wriggled in to the Salem branch's 2008 Summer Reading Kickoff. This summer's statewide theme is "Catch the Reading Bug." Children's program director Maureen Harrill said that this year's turnout is the library's largest in five years. The event included facepainting by Katherine Devine, and Joe Pipik's Backpack Puppet Show. It's not too late to register! More fun-filled (and free!) events are scheduled for the next two months, including an educational program with Mill Mountain Zoo for next Tuesday (June 24) and a magic show by local magician Caleb Johnston next Wednesday (June 25.) Downtown Awful Arthur's patrons might recognize Johnston, as he sometimes entertains tables with his magic tricks there.
