Another bear sighting outside Salem

salem_bearwatts.jpg

We have bear sightings coming out of the woodwork. Or maybe just bears coming out of the woods. Yesterday, we posted a photo gallery from Loyd Tingler, showing a bear waddling into his backyard on Wildwood Road and raiding a bird feeder. Today, we get this photo from Jerry and Linda Watts, who tell us:

"About 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2008, this big bear walked into our yard. We've lived here for 17 years...and this is the first bear we've seen. He was "well-behaved"--sniffed around curiously for about 10 minutes...and then walked back into the woods. We live on Sagewood Circle in Roanoke County (off Rt. 311 near Salem)."

So have you seen a bear lately? If so, send us the information (and a photo if you have it) and we can add it to our map of bear sightings.

Of course, if you have news or photos from anywhere around Salem and western Roanoke County, you can send it to news@sosalem.com -- whether it has a bear in it or not.
