Second man charged in Salem shooting

Salem police have charged a second man in connection with last night's shooting, which left one man wounded.

For background on the story, see our previous post from earlier this morning.

The official release from the Salem Police Department on the second arrest is below:

IN REGARD TO LAST NIGHT’S SHOOTING INCIDENT ON SALEM COMMONS LANE, SALEM DETECTIVES HAVE MADE AN ADDITIONAL ARREST IN THE CASE.

ON 08-06-08 DETECTIVES ARRESTED:

DEMETRIUS RONELL COOPER, AGE 18 OF ROANOKE.

COOPER IS CHARGED WITH:

- MALICIOUS WOUNDING
- SHOOTING INTO AN OCCUPIED DWELLING
- USE OF A FIREARM IN THE COMMISSION OF A FELONY

SUBSEQUENT FOLLOW-UP INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT ONE OF THE ROUNDS FIRED DURING THE INCIDENT STRUCK ONE OF THE APARTMENT BUILDINGS, HENCE THE CHARGE OF SHOOTING INTO AN OCCUPIED DWELLING BEING PLACED.

COOPER IS CURRENTLY BEING PROCESSED AT THE SALEM POLICE DEPARTMENT AND WILL BE TRANSPORTED TO THE ROANOKE COUNTY/SALEM JAIL SHORTLY.
