Webcast previews fall sports season from Salem StadiumPosted Aug19, 2008 at 05:14 PMSportswriters Robert Anderson and Aaron McFarling kick off the fall sports season with the Varsity Cast -- our weekly high school sports webcast -- and this week they do it from Salem Stadium. Why Salem? Robert hints it could be because the Spartans likely sit atop the Timesland pre-season picks. "There might be a good reason why we're here," he says. Salem and Glenvar volleyball also get a mention, too. The Roanoke Times high school football preview comes out in Thursday's editions. Here at So Salem, we're spreading our fall sports editions over two weeks. This Friday, August 22, we'll focus on Glenvar. On Friday, August 29, we'll turn our attention to Salem. And it's never too early to make this pitch -- if you have sports photos involving teams or players from Salem or Glenvar, you can share them at news@sosalem.com. By the way, we're interested in all sports, too, at all levels -- high school and middle school, varsity and junior varsity. If people play it, we want to run it. We posted photos of Salem quarterback Derrick Hickman on August 18. And we posted a photo gallery from the Salem-Glenvar junior varsity football scrimmage on August 15.
