Salem Council sends voters to new poll stations, plans for path

If you're used to going to East or West Salem Elementary Schools to vote, you probably want to read today's article on the polling place changes. Click here to read reporter Pete Dybdahl's story.

Salem City Council also approved a $181,000 grant from the Virginia Department of Transportation to provide a bike and pedestrian path coming out of Kings Mill Road to run along Riverside Drive. The proposed plans would provide residents of the Woodbridge subdivision in Salem access to the future Roanoke River Greenways bike path that is planned to span almost 30 miles across the county.

The intended route connects the westernmost extension of Roanoke River Greenway at Green Hill Park to the Moyer Sports Complex and then to the Colorado Street Bridge, which is being rebuilt with an additional pedestrian lane.

The Roanoke River Greenway project already has completed sections at Green Hill Park, the Moyer Sports Complex, from the Wasena Park to the pedestrian Bridge at Riley Drive, and a section from Hamilton Terrace to 13th Street, with other projects under review, in planning stages, and under construction.
