Your online guide to the September 12 issue of So SalemPosted Sep11, 2008 at 07:16 PM![]() We’ve got a big weekend coming up in Salem. Both Salem and Glenvar are in action Friday night -- the Spartans at William Byrd, the Highlanders at Rural Retreat. It’s Olde Salem Days on Saturday. Joe McCain, the brother of Republican presidential candidate John McCain, is in town for a Republican breakfast in conjunction with Olde Salem Days. (Speaking of Olde Salem Days, check back on this site over the weekend and we'll be posting photos from the day's events.) But wait, there's more. Kellie Pickler performs Saturday night at Roanoke College. Tracey Bourassa is hosting a fund-raiser to raise money to fight cancer. The Fort Lewis fire department is holding its annual chicken bbq. Ummm, we can taste it from here. And then, of course, there’s lots and lots of rec league games. If you’re out and about this weekend -- and who won’t be? -- be sure to take your camera, and share whatever photos you take with us at news@sososalem.com. We can show ‘em off here -- and in print -- in full color. That’s what Salem superfan Laura Tucker did. She shared 305 photos from last week’s Salem - Brookville game -- that’s one of them right here. You can find the rest in this photo gallery. And speaking of more . . . in this week’s print edition of So Salem, you’ll see lots of places where say “see The Notebook” for more. Well, here’s a handy guide to finding that “more”: * Video from Yummy’s late night hours AND IN SPORTS . . . * Photos from the Glenvar Galaxy vs VAFC Hericanes
* You can meet our community journalist for Salem and western Roanoke County -- Miranda Adkins. She keeps regular hours at our Salem "bureau" -- at Mill Mountain Coffee and Tea on Main Street. Here’s her schedule. * So how do we reach 90 percent of the households in Salem and western Roanoke County? Here’s how: Subscribers to The Roanoke Times get it included in their Friday paper; non-subscribers have it mailed to them as part of the weekly Simply Savings advertising flier. Those two add up to more than 90 percent. Plus, we have some free copies available at Kroger, Food Lion, the Salem Y, and the Salem Mill Mountain Coffee & Tea, in case we somehow missed you. * Are you an advertiser who wants to get your message to more than 90 percent of the households in Salem and western Roanoke County? You can find out more at advertise@sosalem.com. Want to place a classified ad to reach your Salem neighbors? We're at classifieds@sosalem.com |
