On Tuesday evening, July 21, the Star City Striders held an all comers track meet at Roanoke College. A total of eight people registered, but dozens of runners of all ages showed up to take part in the fun. First-time miler, six-year-old Sofie Ingram from the city of Roanoke, ran her event alongside adults and teens and impressed the crowd by keeping a steady pace and finishing in under 10 minutes.

They will hold a second meet on August 11 at 6:30 p.m. with the following events:
Kids 100m and 400m; the Open Division will have a 200m, 800m, and the 4 X 400m relay. The mile will be replaced by 5K and 3K races.

To pre-register for the meet, send an email to stridersallcomers@gmail.com, or contact meet director Finn Pincus by telephone at 540-375-2384. The fee is $1 to preregister and $3 if you sign up on the day of the event. Fees will be collected prior to the events at the check-in location trackside, and all participants must sign in at least 15 minutes prior to their event. Any participant under age 18 must have a signed waiver, and a parent or legal guardian must be present at the meet.
