Salem schools recognized for United Way contributions

United Way thanked Salem City schools at the Nov. 17 school board meeting for their contributions to this year’s campaign. Thirty-five percent of the division’s employees contributed $18,617, and students and parents raised $3588.”We’re seeing lines outside our agencies’ doors – so thank you so much for your help,” Houck said.

David Holladay, personnel director at Salem city schools, noted that the total is a 9% decrease from last year’s campaign, but the donation is an amount the division can be proud of during the tough economic times. He coordinated the campaign with the help of 15 site leaders: Lanier Work, Carolyn Pillis, Donna Wright, Susan Young, Patsy Surratt, Kelly Dalaski, Anna Dyer, Regina Meredith, Kristi Vernon, Beth Lawrence, Melanie Smith, Lisa Brown, Sharon Franklin, Mary Kayrouz, and Terri Lewis.

Photos: Glenvar Middle holds food drive

Glenvar Middle School held a canned food drive sponsored by SCA, Natural Helpers and Peer Mediators. We raised over 1,000 cans. We also raised money for the RAM house and because our students were so generous our principal, Dr. Julie Myers, was duct taped to the wall. These events took place on Nov. 25.
