Photos: Salem High swimmers at state meet
The Salem High School swim team participated in the Va State AA Swimming Championship at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va last Friday and Saturday (2/19 – 2/20).
There were 9 Salem swimmers who qualified for the event involving 70 teams and 620 athletes.
The Salem swimmers were:
*Austin Criss: Men’s 200 Yd. Freestyle, 100 Yd. Butterfly, 200 Yd. Medley Relay, 200 Yd.Freestyle Relay
*Nelson Helm: Men’s 200 Yd. Individual Medley, 500 Yd. Freestyle, 200 Yd. Freestyle Relay, 400 Yd. Freestyle Relay
*Joey Dishaw: Men’s 50 Yd. Freestyle, 200 Yd. Medley Relay, 200 Freestyle Relay
*John Sheffield: Men’s 200 Yd. Medley Relay, 400 Yd. Freestyle Relay
*Sam Sheffield: Men’s 200 Yd. Freestyle Relay, 400 Yd. Freestyle Relay
*Maxium Collignon: Men’s 100 Yd. Breaststroke, 200 Yd. Medley Relay
*Braden Burns: Men’s 400 Freestyle Relay
*Jane Anna Caldwell: Women’s 200 Yd. Freestyle, 100 Yd. Butterfly
*Justin McCarthy: Men’s Relay Alternate
Notable Results:
*Austin Criss finished 1st in the Men’s 200 Yd. Freestyle Finals (State AA Champion)
*Austin Criss finished 3rd in the Men’s 100 Yd. Butterfly Finals
*Men’s 200 Yd. Freestyle Relay (Sam Sheffield, Joey Dishaw, Nelson Helm, Austin Criss) won the Consolation Race, recording the 8th fastest time of the Championship meet.
*Jane-Anna Caldwell finished 12th overall in the Women’s 200 Yd. Freestyle.
All but one of the Salem swimmers are underclassmen, so Salem Swimming has a very bright future!
