The Best of Salem 2011
For the third year in a row, we asked readers of So Salem to pick The Best of Salem. The votes poured in; nearly double the number in 2010 and more than five times the number of votes we got our first year. So there’s a lot more competition. In some cases, we had repeat winners, we’ve noted those with an asterisk (*) who won last year, as well. Those with a double asterisk (**) have won all three years. But we also had some new winners — and some new categories, too.

I just read the weekly paper “So Salem” and the synopsis of this vote really intrigued me as it had only one category listed. After reading this list it is rather sad of what we call acceptable. To include Mamma Maria’s and Mac and Bob’s in the same category as Blue Apron is insulting. To not include any ethnic restaurant is borderline xenophobic, but may be a true depiction of Salem.
Thanks, Michael, for discovering “The Best of So Salem.”
It’s an open ballot, so voters can vote for whoever they want. You might be interested to know that the balloting for The Best of So Salem 2012 will kick off in mid-February. We’ll start announcing details in the Feb. 3 issue of So Salem (and here online)so feel free to come back and vote for your favorites.
Those results will publish in April, with highlights published again throughout the coming year, much like the one you saw.
