Skate Center of Roanoke Valley to host 4th Annual Skate-A-Drome reunion
(Roanoke, VA) – Skate Center of Roanoke Valley is hosting the 4th Annual Skate-A-Drome Reunion on Sunday, June 26th; from 12P-5PM. Anyone who skated at the former Skate-A-Drome in Salem (before it burned down in the Fall of 1974,) is invited to attend the reunion. Activities include open skating for attendees. Lunch is potluck. Call Karen or Chris Conner at 989-2000 more information.
Skate-A-Drome was one of the Roanoke Valley’s premier roller rinks dating back the 1940s. Located across from Lakeside, it attracted a huge following from all over. The rink closed in 1972 and became a distribution center for Southeastern Skate Supply (still in operation here in Roanoke.) In October of 1974, the rink burned to the ground during an attempted robbery that turned into an accidental fire. It was the day before a major trade show and stocked to the ceilings with new merchandise to sell to rink owners.
Skate Center of the Roanoke Valley, also known as Lee-Hi Skate Center has been owned and operated by the Conner family for 29 years.
