On July 23, 2011 at 2pm, the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), Patriot Lodge #76 will receive their charter and begin a new lodge located in Salem, Virginia. Stan Malek, President says the lodge will be strictly community oriented and provide camaraderie amongst quality membership from a variety of local law enforcement agencies in the surrounding areas. According to Marty Williams, Virginia State FOP President, we have the utmost confidence with Patriot Lodge #76 that they will maintain the integrity of the FOP history as does the City of Salem has with their reputation in the surrounding cities and counties. The new lodge currently has members standing by to sign the new charter and actively seeking new members. Stan Malek who decided to step down as the former director of Old Dominion Lodge #001 in order to form Patriot Lodge #76 says the decision was heavily weighed upon and because of conflicting interests a request was submitted to the state lodge and was granted permission to form the new lodge. We (members) chose “Patriot” as the name and found it very fitting it was to be number 76, as in “1776″. With support from the VA Medical Center Director, Dr. Miguel LaPuz the monthly meetings will be held at one of the VA Medical Center conference rooms. We owe a lot to Dr. LaPuz for his support and generosity for allowing us to have our meetings at the facility. With Salem having a large population of veterans in the community and at the facility, there are countless amount of community events the Patriot Lodge will be able to help the VA Medical Center with. With creativity and teamwork, FOP Patriot Lodge #76 will be well known throughout the area.
