Salem Police make arrest in sexual assault case
On Saturday September 3, at 2:10 a.m., the Salem Police Department and Roanoke College Campus Safety officers were called to investigate a reported sexual assault of a student.
The 19-year-old male student told officers he was assaulted by a male suspect while walking down an alley near N. Market Street. The victim was not injured as a result of the assault and did not require medical attention.
A subsequent investigation conducted by the Salem Police Department and the Roanoke College Office of Campus Safety led to the arrest of 25-year-old Hung Phi Nguyen from Roanoke. The suspect was taken into custody on campus in Salem, at approximately 1 a.m. on September 11, and charged with sexual battery. He has been released on bond from the Roanoke County/Salem jail.

Thank you for rewriting the headline for So Salem. I would expect it is not easy for males to report an assault and probably plenty go unreported. The Roanoke Times headline is bordering on salacious with that male-on-male headline. Why bring gender into it, especially in the headline? All cases deserve sensitivity. Anyway, thank you So Salem for the rewrite and displaying that sensitivity.
