Meet Pilgrim, the Harrells’ Thanksgiving calf

Ann Harrell, who lives in Catawba and sells her Creekside Creations photos at the Salem Farmers Market, shares these photos and news of the birth of a Thanksgiving calf:

“Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We did………the Thanksgiving turkey delivered Miss Rosie’s calf early that morning! Most of you know that Miss Rosie is our Jersey milk cow, who gives us delicious & rich milk that we drink as is & also churn into butter & buttermilk.

“We were told that Miss Rosie should calve on November 14 (although our vet told us it would be a week or so later) so we’ve been waiting for a while. We were hoping for a little heifer (female) calf that we could keep for a future milk cow. Well……..we received a little bull (male) calf. We named him Pilgrim since he came on Thanksgiving morning. He’s healthy, although his front legs & feet are a little crooked. He’s doing better, can now get up & down on his own & is even running & jumping a little. With all that rich milk, he’ll be growing like a weed!”
