Bastians BBQ on Apperson Drive to re-open

Bastians is back, and this time at its former digs in Salem.

You might remember that Chris Bastian, the owner of Bastians Bar-B-Q & Catering, shut down his Apperson Drive restaurant in 2010 after 16 years in business, blaming the economy. He put the building up for sale.

Bastian continued selling his hickory-smoked barbecue from a mobile concession vehicle. He did that until April, when he said he got sick.

He tried to go back to selling when his health improved but said the cold weather has made it hard.

His customers, though, are still clamoring for his pork, he said.

“I’ve been getting a lot of public demand to open back up and the response has been good, so I am going to give it a shot,” Bastian said.
