Marginal Arts Festival branching out into Salem this year, Feb. 16 and Feb. 19
Roanoke’s Marginal Arts Festival is branching out into Salem this year – Salem’s feature day of the festival is Sunday, February 19 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. in Olin Hall at Roanoke College.
A preview event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16 will be presented in the Tinkerings storefront (4 East Main, next to Brooks Byrd Pharmacy). Artist Claudia de Franko * DeFranko will present a Tableau Vivant (a live rendering) of the painting Velasquez – Las Meninas. Tinkerings owner Katrina Baker is clearing out her glass storefront and giving the artists 14 feet of clear space into the building for the rendering and is providing light refreshments.
“The hope is that people that wouldn’t normally go and see an exhibition in Olin Hall will go and see it, basically, because it’s in the street, because it’s there,” said Gwenda Kellett, volunteer organizer for Salem’s Marginal Arts this year.
