Salem High to present “Beauty and the Beast” March 1-3
Salem High’s Theater Department will present the musical drama “Beauty and the Beast” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday March 1, 2, and 3 in the school’s auditorium. It will feature music and characters from the 1991 Disney film plus several more songs, dancing, and elaborate costumed characters. Tickets, $5 for students and $10 for adults, are available at the door or in advance in the SHS main office.
“It’s a wonderful twist of fate that we’re doing this just as the [Disney] 3-D movie came out,” said Emily Shelton, the production’s director. “Three-D can only look so realistic, but this is ‘Beauty and the Beast’ live and real.”
Katelyn Barker (understudy Alex Moushegian) and Matt Soderberg will play Belle and the Beast. Some of the larger-than-life costumes will arrive a week or so before the play begins.
Other main characters include: Sam Valentine as Gaston, Julian Hamner as Le Fou, Fred Campbell as Maurice, Emily Dillon as Mrs. Potts, Ashton Ledbetter as Lumiere, Lenny Enkhbold as Cogsworth, McKenna Habeeb and Ashby Garst as Chip, Aishah Brown as Babette, Cathrine Korsholm as Wardrobe, Patrick McKinney as Monsieur D’Arque, and Kayla Winstead as the Enchantress. ‘Silly girls’ include Kelly Mangum, Amanda McCormack, Marisa McKnew, and Alex Moushegian.
