They did it again!
Team Scholastics, a Roanoke-area home-school debate club, recently returned home with six medals to their credit. Seven members of the team participated in the Christian Communicators of the SouthEast’s Cape Fear Classic Tournament held in Fayetteville, N.C., April 13-14. Sam Cordle and Jack Shannon triumphed with their second first-place win of the 2011-2012 season in Team Policy Debate. They ran a case proposing the abolition of the Corporate Income Tax. Nicholas Benzinger and Micah Giraudeau captured the third-place Team Policy Debate win, running a case proposing the implementation of a Fair Tax. Two team members placed in the top-ten category for Team Policy Speaker Points; Nicholas placed eighth, and Sam placed tenth. In the individual events category of Impromptu Apologetics, Elizabeth Shannon won the first-place medal, and Sam Cordle won the third-place medal. They presented four impromptu speeches on the topic of evil.
Nicholas Benzinger, Sam Cordle, and Micah Giraudeau are from SW Roanoke. Elizabeth and Jack Shannon are from Salem. Team coach Cari Norton is from Daleville.
